About
My Story

Carrie Moon, born Carolyn nee Yon, became a Petersen when she married Gavin Paul Petersen. They were divorced after being together for about six years, reconciled, and lived together for another almost twenty-four years. He died three and a half years later, on Carrie Moon’s birthday, the 01st of January. They have two adult sons and no grandchildren. Carrie Moon resides in Cape Town South Africa and started writing poetry seriously in 2010 when facing an open-heart surgery. She taught in Cape Town and Kwa-Zulu Natal, tutored learners up to matric level and even taught English as a foreign language. She went on early retirement to have her surgery, but was called back into teaching full time for a further six years and later four months. She is now recently retired, for the third time. Her writer’s name, Carrie Moon, has a love story behind it – when she and her husband Gavin met, because she had such large hazel- green eyes, he would affectionately refer to her as “Carrie with the full moon eyes”, “therefore it just seemed such a fitting name for my poetic persona”.

New collection of poetry and prose shares a journey toward freedom and happiness

Carrie Moon debuts as an author with ‘A Trilogy of Love – A Three Part Poetic Journey’

CAPE TOWN, South Africa – It started out as a simple goodbye gift to her colleagues as she was facing an open-heart surgery and an early retirement.  Now, after 10 long years of editing, revising and reviewing her poems, Carrie Moon publishes her collection of poetry in “A Trilogy of Love – A Three Part Poetic Journey” (published by AuthorHouse UK).

Detailing — in poetic verse — the emotions felt during three distinct chapters of Moon’s life, the book aims to inspire and motivate those who are in a tough spot in their lives; those who are struggling with their relationships; those who are in love; and those who are striving to navigate through life despite trials.

Among many aspects of life that are covered in Moon’s poems, the subject of relationships and its ups and downs are put into the spotlight. In here, she shares her own experiences with relationships and the emotions she felt during its peaks and valleys. It also shares the authentic journey of life that she went through with her family.

“A Trilogy of Love” is divided into three parts: Rejection, Reflections and Released. The final chapter is a depiction of freedom and becoming a free spirit and a happy person — qualities that one can only achieve through introspection, reflection and acceptance.

“The book is about love, in good and bad times and relays that having a connection with whoever your spiritual being is, in my case God, life's many trials can be overcome,” Moon further describes. “I hope that I can help anyone going through a tough stage or even a hopeful stage in their life.”
